Barium sulphate (Barite)

Barium sulfate (BaSO₄), commonly known as barite, is a dense, white or colorless mineral. It occurs naturally as the mineral barite and is used in various industries due to its unique properties. Barite has a high specific gravity (4.3–5.0), making it valuable as a weighting agent in drilling fluids for oil and gas exploration.

Opacity: Due to its refractive index of 1.63, barium sulphate is used in paints and coatings for its opacity and ability to enhance brightness.
