It is composed primarily of saturated hydrocarbons and is valued for its versatility, stability, and non-reactive nature. Paraffin wax is widely used across various industries due to its excellent moisture barrier and thermal insulation properties.

Physical Properties:

  • Appearance: White, translucent, and waxy solid
  • Melting Point: Typically between 46°C to 68°C
  • Density: Approximately 0.9 g/cm³
  • Solubility: Insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as benzene and ether
  • Odor: Odorless or mild hydrocarbon scent

Uses:

Paraffin wax is extensively used in the candle-making industry for producing candles with good burn quality and aesthetic appeal. In the cosmetics and personal care sector, it is utilized in creams, lotions, and therapeutic treatments for softening the skin. The food industry uses food-grade paraffin wax as a coating for cheese, fruits, and confections to retain moisture and enhance appearance. It is also employed in the packaging industry to coat paper and cardboard for moisture resistance. Additionally, paraffin wax plays a role in rubber and textile processing, crayon and polish manufacturing, and as a lubricant and thermal insulator in various industrial applications. Its versatility and functional properties make it a valuable material across numerous sectors.
